An Ode To Her


An ode to her is an interactive exhibition that taps into the magnitudes of female expression in the physical and metaphysical space of Sudan.
The body of work comprises of paintings from 4 young and established Sudanese artists and a collection of archival works. Visualizing the diversity of women themselves from different timeframes and the limitations and boundaries that they work to break through. Providing an example of resilience, strength, and empowerment.

Visualizing the diversity of women themselves from different timeframes and the limitations and boundaries that they work to break through. Providing an example of resilience, strength, and empowerment.

Artists

1. Maab Taj

Maab is a self-taught artist who delved into painting in 2015 and graduated from architecture school in 2021. Maab’s work is focused on her passions that include women rights, marginalized communities, and minorities issues. She’s currently working as a Toubs designer and painter (Toub is the Sudanese traditional women’s costume) and a art teacher assistant, while creating art collections reflecting her visions and hopes to her people.

2. Roaa Kamal.

Roaa kamal is a graduate of fine arts, department of painting (2012) from Sudan University of Science and Technology.
From a young age, she discovered her love for drawing. She participated in group exhibitions, including Baba Costa Center, Donia Dabanga, and others. She also had her first exhibition at the French Cultural Center in 2015.
Not only that, but she partnered with “Yalla Khartoum” a group that decorates the streets of Khartoum with murals, it brings her joy to perpetuate her paintings in such a meaningful way. She enjoys partnering with creative artists.

 3. Suzan Ibrahim.

Graduated from the College of fine and applied art and has a PHD of art philosophy.
Suzanne works in Khartoum university at the Faculty of Education in the art educational department.
She has done four solo exhibitions and participated in many workshops and more than 28 group exhibitions in and outside of Sudan.
She has a membership in the Sudanese Artist Association and Union of Sudanese Artist.

4. Yasmeen Abdullah.

Yasmeen Abdallah is a Sudanese visual artist born in Qatar. She now lives and works in Khartoum, Sudan. She graduated in 2014 with a BA in painting from the college of fine and applied art at Sudan university.
She began pursuing art in Qatar ever since she was young. Yasmeen participated in art contests with the support of her family. She knew she wanted to become an artist but faced difficulties in Sudan. It was hard to find basic art schools in her small town and even when she was in high school, the schools still didn't have art teachers or materials. However, she still managed to become an art student in the college of fine and applied art.
